Filmmaker Jason Reitman's frenetic and footloose imagining of NBC's iconic late-night live TV comedy showcase in the impending hours just before its leading up to opening night broadcast with ringleader producer/creator Lorne Michaels (LaBelle) in a whirlwind of activity, angst and hubris as the kinetic energy of backstage drama unspools.

There are many Easter eggs for SNL fans so that helps add to the nostalgic joy ride none-the-less

Breakneck cinematography by Eric Steelberg and sharp editing by Nathan Orloff & Shane Reid propels the non-stop frantic pace with last minute adjustments that compliments its mostly game cast (standouts are Smith's Chevy Chase, all ego and snark, O' Brien's uncanny & fun Dan Aykroyd and dead-ringer Wood as the late, great John Belushi). While the score by Batiste keeps the film in groove it gets repetitive and stale after awhile and the cringey Podany as a worried Billy Crystal (dude looks nothing like the comedian whatsoever doesn't help) is beyond annoying.
